Women with clever hands exhibition

The Women with Clever Hands:Gapuwiyak Miyalkurruwuy Gong Djambatjmala exhibition developed by curator Dr Louise Hamby and assistant curator Lucy Malirrimurruway Wanapyngu features elaborate fibre work pieces created by women artists from Gapuwiyak in northeast Arnhem Land.
Featuring a variety of aesthetically beautiful works that combine functional shapes, design, and subtle colour reflecting the land and culture of Arnhem Land, the objects are grouped into stories, by maker and by technique to establish the characteristics of the Gapuwiyak style. The pieces featured in the exhibition date from 1995-2010 and include works made by artists at different ages.
Dr Louise Hamby from the Research School of Humanities and the Arts, and the Gapuwiyak Community developed this exhibition in partnership with the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery. This exhibition is in conjunction with Selling Yarns 3: Weaving the nation's story.
